Brunei holds exhibition to mark 50th anniversary of ASEAN

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- As part of the activities to commemorate the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)'s 50th anniversary, a special exhibition organized by Brunei's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MoFAT) raised its curtain on Saturday. The two-day exhibition at the International Convention Center is the first of its kind and over 20 booths prepared by embassies and high commissions of ASEAN member states and ASEAN Dialogue Partners in Brunei demonstrate information related to ASEAN. "I hope Bruneians can know more about ASEAN's history and contributions as well as its prospects and goals through this event," Haji Erywan, deputy minister of MoFAT told Xinhua after unveiling the exhibition on Saturday. "ASEAN is committed to building a political-united, economic-integrated, people-oriented community, to make a great contribution to the promotion of regional peace, stability and development," he added. A number of activities are also organized during the exhibition, including a trade forum, education talks and cultural performances, as well as a food fair. The exhibition also features a Chinese Embroidery Exhibition with Chinese embroidery works, embroidery calligraphy and embroidery scrolls. Chinese artists also showcase their embroidery skills at the exhibition. ASEAN was founded on Aug. 8, 1967 in Bangkok. Last Tuesday, the 10 member organization reached its 50th anniversary. Enditem
